Leave it to Stanley Tucci to make the upcoming cooler months a bit cozier with pasta. The avid cook is releasing a recipe kit that’s perfect for chilly nights at home and restful meals ahead of the holidays. Not only that, but he’s doing so with a hard-to-find yet beloved pasta type: stelline, aka star-shaped pasta. The kit—along with some serving and food storage tips we asked him for—will bring such warmth to the season that you may not even need to touch your trusty pile of throw blankets.
Tucci teamed up with S.Pellegrino, which fittingly has a red star-shaped logo, and Italian pasta brand Rummo to release the recipe kit called Stelline Two Ways. As you may recall, the U.S.-based pasta brand Ronzoni announced in January of 2023 that it was discontinuing its production of star-shaped pasta. Many were devastated by the news. But, luckily, those who have been missing the pasta type can find a glimmer of happiness in Tucci’s kit, which includes the pasta, ingredients to make two of his favorite stelline recipes, and, of course, a bottle of S.Pellegrino.
For the recipes, Tucci chose two meals he grew up with: Brodo di Gallina and Pastina Classica. “Those were two things that were served during the winter months, especially if you were unwell,” Tucci tells House Beautiful. “You had the stelline in brodo if you had a cold because chicken soup is the best cure for a cold and the stelline with butter and cheese because that's what you had if you had a bad stomach.”
Obviously, the comfort meals are also enjoyable when you’re feeling good. “We would have the chicken soup at Thanksgiving,” Tucci says. “My aunt would always make it, and my mother would make it throughout the winter months.”
Tucci recommends serving the pastina straight out of the pot. The same goes for the soup, but you need to keep the pasta separate. Tucci explains: “You ladle the pasta in [the bowl], and then you put the soup over top of it. And then you do that with each individual bowl because if you put the pasta into the soup, it just absorbs it. Then you lose the soup, and the pasta becomes mush. You always keep them separate. If you have leftovers, you always keep them separate.”
For storing leftovers, Tucci’s kitchen is equipped with a cabinet that’s filled with Tupperware and glass containers with rubber lids in all different sizes. “It looks like a shop that you could sell them in,” Tucci says. “It's ridiculous, but that's what we do.”
Apart from storage containers, Tucci says another great way to store broth for future meals is by putting it in ice cube trays. “If you just need a little bit of it, if you're using it for a recipe, you just take out the cube and use that.”
The recipe kit is available for $89 (including two-day cold shipping), from World Chef/YumCrunch starting today. More kits will become available with weekly drops on November 8, November 15, and November 27. Should you host a meal this winter and serve either of the recipes from this kit, consider enacting Tucci's holiday hosting tips while you're at it. From when to set the table to his go-to tablescape design style, his advice is sure to enhance the experience.
