I suppose I should actually do this.
The last time I wrote Bad Gambling Advice was Week 6, and it’s now Week 9. After that week, my record stood at 30-31-1 ATS and 31-30-1 on totals — in other words, completely mediocre. Which is what you have grown to expect.
So, let’s make some bad picks.
Disclaimer: If you base actual financial decisions on these picks, you are a moron.
Texas at Baylor (11:00 AM CT, ABC)
One of the oddities of this football season is that Texas has looked really good in its four wins, and actually hasn’t looked bad in two losses — except for the part where they blew leads. They were up three touchdowns early on Oklahoma, then ended up losing — and they got up two touchdowns early in the second half on Oklahoma State, then blew that one too. In other words, I don’t trust them, particularly on the road against a pretty good Baylor team.
Score Prediction: Baylor 35, Texas 28
Picks: Baylor -2.5, Over 61.5
Missouri at Vanderbilt (2:00 PM CT, SEC Network)
Pain, probably. But Missouri is 0-7 ATS and I’m not betting against that.
Score Prediction: (will be revealed in Saturday Predictions)
Picks: Vanderbilt +16.5, Under 62.5
Georgia vs. Florida (2:30 PM CT, CBS)
You all know what happens here. Dan Mullen comes out guns blazing with a game plan that kinda solves the Georgia defense for the first time all season, this turns into an unexpectedly close game, though I do think Georgia will ultimately prevail.
Score Prediction: Georgia 31, Florida 24
Picks: Florida +14, Over 51
Texas Tech at Oklahoma (2:30 PM CT, ABC)
You might have heard this already, but Texas Tech fired its coach earlier this week. This is a weird situation where interim coach and former offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie might actually have a real shot at the job permanently, and I think this lights a fire under them. Oh, yeah, and Oklahoma struggled with Kansas last week.
Score Prediction: Oklahoma 42, Texas Tech 35
Picks: Texas Tech +19, Over 66.5
Kentucky at Mississippi State (6:00 PM CT, SEC Network)
Here’s the thing with Kentucky: on balance, I think they’re a good team, but getting to 6-1 has involved quite a bit of smoke and mirrors. I think they’ll end up going 10-2, but this would be the loss.
Score Prediction: Mississippi State 28, Kentucky 17
Picks: Mississippi State -1.5, Under 47
Ole Miss at Auburn (6:00 PM CT, ESPN)
Oh yeah, there are gonna be points scored in this one.
Score Prediction: Auburn 41, Ole Miss 35
Picks: Auburn -3, Over 66.5
