Nobody wants to think of the bad memories that started off this run the Dodgers are currently on since 2013. But there is no doubt now that whoever doesn’t win the NL West between the Giants and Dodgers will host the Cardinals, the hottest team in baseball, in a one-game playoff.
St. Louis has won an astonishing 14 in a row to take a commanding lead in the second wild card spot and become a dangerous team to face in October. Just two weeks ago, the Cardinals were 3.5-games back for the second wild card, staring up at three teams above them.
Fast forward to today and they enter Saturday with a 5.0-game lead over the Phillies with eight to play. The Cardinals magic number to clinch is four.
Anybody watching in 2013 and 2014 is aware of the Hanley Ramirez broken rib at the hands of Joe Kelly or the Matt Adams homer in the seventh inning when Clayton Kershaw was cruising.
Molly Knight wrote Friday about the Cardinals positioning themselves to possibly ruin the postseason.
