Jets report card: Very bad - New York Post

stratupnation.blogspot.com

Grading the Jets after their 40-3 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday.

Offense

The Seahawks entered the game as the No. 31 defense in the NFL. The Jets made them look like the ’85 Bears. The Jets managed just 185 total yards and failed to reach the end zone. QB Sam Darnold (14-of-26, 132 yards, 68.1 rating) did nothing in the game. He should have been intercepted three times, but the Seahawks kept dropping his gifts. Former Jet Jamal Adams (5 tackles, 1 sack, 1 pass defensed, 1 tackle for loss) did not blow up the Jets offense like he had hoped, but he had a better day than the Jets did.

Grade: F

Defense

Well, Gregg Williams was not the only problem. The Jets defense looked worse under Frank Bush on Sunday than they had under Williams this year. Seattle racked up 410 total yards and basically took its foot off the gas in the third quarter, putting in backup QB Geno Smith. Starting QB Russell Wilson (21-of-27, 206 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT, 122.6 rating) toyed with the Jets. Seattle’s wide receivers were wide open all day and the usually stout Jets rushing defense was gashed to the tune of 174 yards

Grade: F

Special teams

Remember when Jason Myers was the Jets kicker? He made a Pro Bowl and then the Jets let him leave in free agency. Now, he is kicking in Seattle and the Jets watched their kicker Sergio Castillo miss three field goal attempts. The Jets were never going to win this game, but Castillo killed any chance of them keeping it close in the first half. Corey Ballentine gave the Jets a spark with a 66-yard kickoff return, but the offense did nothing with it.

Grade: D-

Coaching

You can’t blame this one on Williams. The Jets looked ill-prepared and overmatched in this one. The Jets got their butts kicked in every way possible in this game. That lands on head coach Adam Gase, who is nearing the end with the team. The Jets failed to capitalize on Seattle’s mistakes and looked lost on defense, leaving Seattle receivers running wide open and running backs running through giant holes.

Grade: F
