The shorthanded Cowboys gave it their best shot, but fell 23-9 to the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
Coming into the matchup, the odds were stacked against the Cowboys.
With second-string quarterback Andy Dalton out after suffering a concussion last week against Washington, rookie Ben DiNucci, the Cowboys' seventh-round pick from this year’s draft, drew the start.
It was an ugly game, to say the least.
DiNucci completed 21-of-40 passes for 180 yards, fumbled twice and miraculously had no interceptions, despite some close calls. And yet, Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz may have played worse.
Wentz threw for 123 yards and two touchdowns, but also turned the ball over four times, throwing two interceptions and fumbling the ball twice.
DiNucci finished the game with a quarterback rating of 64.6 compared to Wentz’s rating of 61.2.
Here is the national reaction to the quarterback play and more from the Cowboys' loss.
Ben DiNucci has been cover your eyes bad at moments of this game.
And I’m not sure he’s the worst QB on the field at the moment.

All is not Gucci for Ben DiNucci.

Ben DiNucci is having one of the worst games I've ever seen and he's outplaying Carson.

If Patrick Mahomes had thrown that sidearm pass media would be creaming themselfs but since its Ben DiNucci and it missed his receiver by 9 yards its cricket #hypocrisy

Eagles want to face Ben DiNucci every week. Cowboys want to face Carson Wentz every week.

Ben DiNucci and Carson Wentz battling it out for the 7th best QB in the division rn

Look DiNucci has been bad, really really bad, but he’s played better than Carson Wentz.

TREVON DIGGS IS A GROWN MAN.
— Cameron Magruder (@ScooterMagruder) November 2, 2020
Carson Wentz is out here single-handedly trying to rebuild Trevon Diggs’ confidence. Simply incredible!

Jaylon Smith is less dangerous to the offense when he is unblocked. Never seen a second level player so enthusiastic about taking himself out of the run fit with bad angles and choices.

Gucci DiNucci doesn't have an NFL arm.
— Marcus Mosher (@Marcus_Mosher) November 2, 2020
It's possible Ben DiNucci just played his first and last NFL game. Hope not for his sake. But that's the reality of what we just watched. At least it was on "Sunday Night Football" for the Dallas Cowboys.

Get Jaylon Smith off the field.
— Marcus Mosher (@Marcus_Mosher) November 2, 2020
I swear to God, I watched Jaylon Smith make those plays in 2018. Right? Are we collectively imagining that?
— David Helman (@HelmanDC) November 2, 2020
Quick update: I think I like Lance Berkman, Dwyane Wade and Joe Theismann — combined — more than Jaylon Smith right now.
