D.C. businesses are waiting for the all-clear to move into phase 2 of the city’s COVID-19 reopening plan with 50% capacity indoor dining. But in the meantime, a few restaurants that have been out of the game have been ramping up takeout and delivery operations, while others are unveiling patios for socially distanced al fresco dining. In addition to last week’s recent reopenings, here are dining favorites to welcome back this week:
Bad Saint: After bowing out of takeout during the pandemic, the hit Filipino restaurant in Columbia Heights is “starting small” with a short food menu available for carryout along with pantry items sold to-go. Menu options include pinakbet or pork belly and vegetable stew, a chilled octopus salad, and crispy spring rolls. Pre-order online for same-day pickups on Saturdays and Sundays.
Boqueria: The tapas restaurant will reopen for delivery and contact free pick-up out of the Dupont Circle location starting today, Wednesday, June 17. The plan is to open the patio during the first week of July.
Cafe Riggs: Chef Patrick Curran’s stylish bistro within Riggs Hotel in Penn Quarter reopened on June 11 with curbside takeout and delivery. Menu options include a whole roasted chicken dinner, braised short ribs, roasted marble potatoes, and strawberry mousse tarte.
Loeb’s NY Deli: The D.C. deli reopens today, Wednesday, June 17, with a limited menu including matzo ball soup, sandwiches, salads, and sides.
Hatoba: The ramen shop in Navy Yard unveiled its new patio menu for outdoor dining, including bowls of ramen, hot dogs, donburi, and pineapple soft serve.
Tune Inn: The classic Capitol Hill dive bar is offering reservations on its patio.
Blend 111: The Vienna restaurant/wine bar/coffee bar created a new patio with 10 tables and seating for 30, bringing in trees and plants from DePaul’s Urban Farm. There’s limited indoor dining too, with eight tables inside.
The Dubliner: The 46-year-old essential Irish pub near Union Station reopened this week, capitalizing on its newly expanded patio. It’s currently the only D.C. bar pouring Guinness Wide Mouth White Ale, a new brew from Open Gate Brewery in Maryland.
