(KNSI) – A local business is one of 15 recipients of Launch Minnesota’s latest Innovation Grants for startups.

The competitive grant program has doled out $3.2 million to 104 startups across the state, with special emphasis on women-owned businesses, businesses owned by people of color and businesses in Greater Minnesota.

“As Minnesota’s economy recovers from the pandemic, it’s vital that the state continues to support technology startups and foster the growth of our innovation ecosystem,” said DEED Deputy Commissioner of Economic Development Kevin McKinnon. ”These are investments in Minnesota’s present and its future.”

The latest grantees include MK1 Engineering in Sauk Rapids, which produces a seed orientation planter system called “AeroTube” that farmers can use for precision crop planting.

The precision planting implement can “improve leaf and canopy structure, maximize photosynthesis, reduce weed pressure and preserve ground moisture,” according to MK1 Engineering’s website.
